Everyone who joins a Network Marketing opportunity has good intentions. Everyone thinks (albeit briefly) that they will succeed. Otherwise, why would they join in the first place?
Intentions are overrated. The power of intention might get people started, but it is short-lived. We need more than that. We need staying power. We need momentum. We need wins.
But what do we often get instead? Excuses.
Excuses are deeply entrenched in our culture. They make people think they can do anything they want and “get a pass.”
Imagine if people actually OWNED their choices instead of making excuses … if they were honest with themselves and others?
In my nearly 40 years in the profession, here’s what I’ve found to be the top 4 excuses … and what they would actually sound like if people were honest …
EXCUSE #1: “I GOT BUSY. I HAD TO DO THIS OR THAT.”
Honest Admission: I chose to do something else instead of building my business. This something else is more important to me … even more important than the commitment I made to you and my future.
EXCUSE #2: “NO ONE WANTS TO DO THIS.”
Honest Admission: I chose to decide that no one wants to do this, contrary to all the current evidence, including the 18.5 million people in the U.S. alone and the 475,000 people a WEEK who choose to do this.
EXCUSE #3: “NO ONE HAS ANY MONEY.”
Honest Admission: People do have the money. Just look at that Starbucks line stacked 20 deep with people who will spend $150-$200 a month on dessert for breakfast.
EXCUSE #4: “NO ONE IS RESPONDING TO ME.”
Honest Admission: My invites need work. I vow to master the art of conviction, enthusiasm, urgency, honor and listening … such that people, even people who have known me forever, start to see me as interesting!
HOW TO BULLETPROOF YOUR TEAM FROM THESE EXCUSES:
Motivated people make targeted, productive choices that are aligned with their goals and commitments. Motivated people create wins and momentum.
NOT SURE WHAT MOTIVATION ACTUALLY IS? I DEFINE IT AS A MIX OF THESE 4 THINGS:
Our motivation is a direct, profound result of our Vision [click to tweet] … in other words, our belief, mindset, and expectations, whether it’s about our business or any other aspect of our lives.
To the degree that your people are crystal-clear on their Vision, and to the degree they tend to believe it is possible, probable, and inevitable … they will be ON FIRE to create it.
To the degree their Vision is one of vague possibilities, there will be excuses.
The most important thing you can do as a new person’s sponsor is to build the clarity of their Vision [click to tweet] … their belief and their conviction.
When you start hearing excuses, instead of blaming them (which will produce nothing), step up your leadership game! Motivate them! This is how the big bucks are made … and it’s worth it.
